DG AT HOME | CELADON

“In these uncertain times it is now more important than ever to keep positive – to reflect, relax and revitalise. As we all know, colour can have a profound affect on how we feel and in these challenging times, there is definitely solace in celadon – those glassy, delicate aqua tones that blur the boundaries between green and blue.

Celadon isn’t just an exquisite colour. It refers to a type of ceramic with a soft grey-green coloured glaze. Despite its European name, the celadon glaze technique originated in China during the Shang (1600-1046 BC) and Zhou (1046-256 BC) dynasties, when master potters began experimenting with glaze recipes whilst trying to replicate the colour of jade, a highly significant mineral in Chinese culture.

Celadon, aqua, glass green all have unique qualities – ethereal, soothing and understated, these colours combine the tranquillity and serenity of blue with a sense of renewal which green embodies. The perfect remedy to our world today.

You don’t need to make big changes - maybe swap a cushion cover or two and place fresh flowers in the room you frequent the most. Get creative, make a mood board, re-upholster rather than buy new - use this time to create your own working from home haven and share your images using #dgyourspace - I’d love to see what you come up with.”
