There is something about spring that just sings out clear, fresh colour - whether it is the first buds of blossom blooming on the trees, or the array of spring bulbs coming to life - there is a sense of newness in the air and with that the signal that colour is coming back into our lives - after the bare landscape of winter.

There is a sense of throwing open one’s windows and doors to the sunlight and natural world, hearing the birds and seeing everything spring into life – a feeling that has certainly led to spring traditionally being a time for painting and home decorating as we come out of our hibernation.

Why not celebrate the new season with a beautiful palette of cool, clear pastels that are perfect for fresh, new beginnings. Try a mix of pastel colours (rather than just the ubiquitous sugary pink) such as lilac, duck egg, rose and jade - when combined together these give a contrast of warmer and cooler shades keeping the look crisp and modern.

For a more graphic feel - focus on textural detail, as opposed to floral patterns. For example here we have combined our Varese flat matt velvet with cool linens from our tableware collections and a chunky chenille - all these fabrics bring textural interest without being too whimsical. The natural, flat finish of matt emulsion paint works brilliantly in pastel shades bringing a chalky touch and shown here are duck egg and sugared almond as great examples. The whole look when combined with white - from the flecks of white in the Tauriani rug and lacy white detail in the Contarini wallpaper to the delicate white china tableware or plain white linen Manzoni sample - keeps it super fresh.

For inspiration why not look to the iconic Laduree macaroons – the perfect pastel indulgence.
