The World of Designers Guild

  • Colour Palette: Metallics

At Designers Guild we use metallics to create an extra element of interest, as well as a sense of luxury and glamour within the collections. They can illuminate designs and bring a pattern to life by creating a sense of added depth and light. An effect that is often seen on the catwalk – from the clothes to the make up – metallic touches can also evoke a sense of modernity and an urban edge.

Within interior design metallics can be used to great effect and create a range of different results – from grand scale glamour – to cool, ethereal mystic.
Just think of the difference between a heavy embroidered silk with threads of bright gold or a cut velvet with a shimmering gold pile - compared to highlights of silver on a cool linen or a white and pale gold or silver silk.

When soft metallic touches are added to wallpapers, the effect can be glimpsed and interpreted in different ways as the light falls onto the design and with fabrics, not only do metallics bring life, but an extra textural feel within the design.

Within our essential collections, plain designs are often given a metallic finish, not just in gold, and silver but a metallic glaze to any colour within our broad palette, – and many silks can create a metallic effect just with the inherent lustrous quality they possess – perhaps part of the reason why metallics are often seen as luxurious and glamourous….
This season the catwalks are awash with a sea of reflective metallics, how would you bring it into your home?
