Die Welt von Designers Guild

Out of the blue exhibition series | The shape of modernity

OUT OF THE BLUE EXHIBITION SERIES | THE SHAPE OF MODERNITY

Although nature and flowers have been a main source of inspiration, Tricia Guild still maintained a constant eye on modernity, structure and architectural detail - resulting in broadening our offering of geometric stripes, checks, and intricately detailed graphic designs, that have been used on their own or alongside our decorative range, to create an entirely different spirit.

Tricia was inspired by the paintings of Mark Rothko, Howard Hodgkin and others for their artistic expression which led her to integrate and combine the structure of stripes with the expansive freedom of flowers to create a balance in both fabrics and wallpapers that would become a hallmark.

Abstract patterns can be seen even in our very first collection Village, 1976 of block prints inspired by India’s architecture up to our current collections today.

Tricia Guild continued to instinctively explore this medium of abstract expressionism over the decades.

Head to the Fashion and Textile Museum for more info - exhibition running until 21st February 2021.
