The World of Designers Guild

The Shanghai Garden print is an unadulterated celebration of peonies and roses - a design that could be perceived as being unashamedly romantic, and yet this doesn't mean it has to be sickly sweet or overtly feminine within a space.

Here in our moodboard we have taken the main print design and added a splash of Vreeland pink paint, but tempered these with a cooler colour palette and carefully chosen textures.

Look how the geometric dogtooth pattern gives a graphic edge, one colourway picks up the pink within the floral design, whereas the other counterbalances it with a hit of fresh jade green and white. These are combined with washed, casual linens and a cool figured velvet with a textural pattern – again in cooler shades that become the main backbone of the palette.

The marble effect wallpaper and a smaller scale antique motif add a touch of elegance to the walls, with the merest hint of pattern so as to maintain a sense of harmony. The teal blue, jade and grey colours are then taken through into paint and textural rugs.
The finished look is one that is measured and balanced – the focus remains on the main floral print, and yet the combination of textures and colours move it away from the more obvious pink, into a look that is contemporary and sophisticated.
